TRIO Philadelphia supports community education events
In support of the TRIO mission of patient and community education, many members enjoy going out and sharing their transplant/donation life experiences to raise awareness for the need for registering as organ donors.

With literally hundreds of events over the years speaking to community church and civic groups, nursing and medical student classes, local school classes, supporting the Gift of Life's many honoring events for hospitals and their staffs (even some early morning 'grand rounds!), this area of TRIO activity is very rewarding and fun.

If you are capable of comfortably (or even nervously) sharing your transplant or donor life experience to inspire others to become supporters of organ donation, this just might be the chapter event experience for you.

Jim and his wife, Pam, a 'donor mom' often speak together sharing the donation and transplant sides of the process, in this case as a closing presentation after several community theater performances of a heart recipient play

Here Susan takes our message to a local Shriner's rodeo event after manning a donor education table there
And then there are TRIO sponsored transplant candidate events, showing future recipients how successful life can be with a new organ
"Can you see yourself in pictures like these?" While not for everyone, if you are comfortable sharing your own story, these might be you!

Sometimes that community education goes beyond words, taking on other forms as in this parade with heart recipient, Bill Soloway, promoting organ donor awareness with his donor decorated bike - a hobby which he takes throughout the local area and beyond!
