TRIO Philadelphia offers free children's book about transplant

TRIO Philadelphia families came together to create this unique free resource.  The 36 page colorful book uses Kathy's true story of a chapter mother's double lung transplant, adapted and illustrated with hand-drawings by her two children and those of our other chapter families. Through her story and those illustrations, children of a family where some other member of that family is facing a transplant can come to understand what is happening in their own children's language.

Note: The story is aimed at children ages 3 through 10, the actual ages of the children who created the book (as seen in the book's back pages after the story).

Just click on the book cover above to download the full book for viewing on-line or you can print the downloaded PDF document for off-line reading with your children . . .

Note: a limited number of hard copy books are also available for the asking. TRIO Philadelphia does not sell these books, offering them for free to help families educate their young children when someone else in the family is facing a transplant. Medical professionals supporting transplant families are encouraged to share this link address (i.e. the page you are now reading on-line) with their patients. Some centers have asked for multiple copies to have on hand for such support and we gladly provide them, again at no charge. We do welcome donations in support of this program as it costs about $10 per book mailing to distribute, but that is totally optional. The books are free for the asking. For one or more copies, E-mail your request with name and US postal mailing address where they should be sent to: GleasonJim@aol.com or call (609) 877-4493. Donations in support of the project can be made out and mailed to: TRIO Philadelphia, c/o Elizabeth Rubin, treasurer, 407 N Swarthmore Ave, Swarthmore, PA 19081.
